How do I access CRA information for someone who has passed away?

To access a deceased person’s CRA account, the deceased's legal representative (such as the trustee named in the will, or an administrator appointed by the court) can request access to their tax information through the CRA's Represent a Client service.

To get started, log in to Represent a Client using your own CRA login (the same one you use for your personal My Account) and register as a representative. You'll receive a representative identifier (RepID).

Next, submit the required documents to the CRA showing that you are the legal representative. These generally include a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the will or other legal document (such as letters probate or a court appointment) naming you as the representative. Documents can be uploaded through Represent a Client or mailed to the CRA.

Once the CRA has reviewed your documents and confirmed your authority, you'll be able to view the deceased person's information and handle their tax matters, such as filing their final return.

If the CRA has not yet been notified of the death, this should be done as soon as possible. The link to log in to your CRA account, and the CRA's guide on what to do following a death can be found below.
