How to Register for a

“My Account”

with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

To register for a CRA My Account, go to the CRA sign-in page (link below) and choose how you'd like to sign in. You can create a CRA user ID and password, or use a Sign-In Partner, which lets you log in with your online banking credentials.

When registering, you'll be asked to enter your social insurance number (SIN), date of birth, current postal code, and an amount from one of your recent income tax and benefit returns. Make sure you have a copy of your return handy, as the CRA will tell you which line to look for. You'll then set up your login details and security questions.

To finish registration, the CRA needs to verify your identity. Depending on the option you choose, you may be able to verify instantly (for example, through your bank or by verifying your ID document online), or the CRA will mail a security code to your address on file, which usually arrives within 10 business days. Once you receive it, log in and enter the code to complete your registration.

Note: You must have filed an income tax return in one of the last two years to register.
